I’ll be honest with you. I’ve done a lot of chemical peels over the years, and most of them are fine. They do what they’re supposed to do. But VI Peel is the one I actually get excited about, because the results are consistently impressive — and the recovery is manageable when you know what to expect.
Let me walk you through what makes it different, what the experience actually looks like, and whether it might be a good fit for you.
Why VI Peel Stands Out
Most chemical peels use one acid. VI Peel uses five: TCA, retinoic acid, salicylic acid, phenol, and vitamin C. That combination is what makes it so effective. Instead of treating one concern at a time, we’re addressing acne, sun damage, fine lines, uneven texture, and dullness all in one session.
For my clients here in Tempe, that matters. Living in Arizona means your skin takes a beating. The UV exposure is relentless, even on days that don’t feel particularly sunny. Add in the dry desert air and dust, and you’ve got a recipe for skin that ages faster than it should. VI Peel is one of the best tools I have for reversing that kind of cumulative damage.
What the Treatment Actually Feels Like
The whole appointment takes about 30 minutes. I apply the peel in layers, and you’ll feel a mild tingling, maybe some warmth. That’s it. Most clients tell me it was way more comfortable than they expected.
You leave looking totally normal. No redness, no wrapping, nothing dramatic. The first couple of days are easy.
Then around days three to five, most people experience real peeling. Not light flaking — actual shedding of skin, usually starting around the mouth and spreading across the face. It looks more intense than you might expect, and I want you to know that going in. It’s completely normal and means the treatment is working. Plan those days accordingly.
The Day-by-Day Breakdown
Days 1 to 3: Your skin might feel a little tight, maybe slightly flushed. It looks like a mild sunburn at most. You’re going about your normal life during this phase.
Days 3 to 5: For most people, this is when real peeling happens. Your skin sheds — starting around the mouth, then spreading across the face. Some people experience minimal peeling, but that’s the exception. Plan for about three days where you’ll want to lay low. I send you home with post-care products that keep everything comfortable and hydrated.
Day 7: The peeling wraps up, and this is the part I love. Your skin looks fresh, smooth, and noticeably more even. Pores look smaller. That dull, tired quality is gone. And the improvement keeps going over the next few weeks as collagen production ramps up.
What VI Peel Can Help With
Sun damage and dark spots. If you hike Camelback Mountain, run around Tempe Town Lake, or just live your life outdoors in Arizona, you’ve accumulated sun damage. VI Peel breaks up those melanin deposits and brings clearer skin to the surface.
Acne and scarring. The salicylic acid clears out congested pores while the TCA smooths surface-level scarring from old breakouts.
Melasma. This is one of the trickiest pigmentation issues to treat, and VI Peel’s multi-acid formula handles it better than most single-acid peels I’ve used.
Fine lines. The retinoic acid in the formula stimulates collagen production, which softens lines over time. You won’t get Botox-level results on deep wrinkles, but for early fine lines and crepey texture, it makes a real difference.
General dullness. Sometimes your skin just looks tired. You can’t pinpoint one specific problem, but everything looks flat and lackluster. VI Peel resets that.
How to Prepare
Two weeks before your appointment, stop using retinoids. I know that’s annoying if they’re part of your routine, but your skin needs to be in a neutral state for the peel to work its best.
Also, minimize sun exposure leading up to your treatment. I realize that’s a big ask in Arizona. If you’ve got outdoor plans, let’s schedule around them. I’d rather wait a week than compromise your results.
I’ll give you a pre-peel kit with gentle cleansers and protective products. Follow the protocol. It makes a noticeable difference in how your skin responds to the treatment.
How Many Treatments Do You Need?
One VI Peel will give you visible results. But for deeper concerns like stubborn pigmentation or acne scarring, I usually recommend three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. Each one builds on the last, and the cumulative effect is significant.
After that initial series, most clients come in quarterly to maintain their results. Some come more often, especially if they spend a lot of time outdoors or deal with ongoing breakouts. We figure out the right cadence together based on how your skin responds.
A Note on Honesty
I’m not going to tell you VI Peel fixes everything, because it doesn’t. It’s excellent for surface-level and moderate skin concerns. If you have deep scarring, severe sun damage, or significant volume loss, we might need to look at other options, either instead of or in addition to a peel.
That’s what the consultation is for. I want to understand what’s bothering you, look at your skin, and give you a straight answer about what will actually help. No overselling, no pressure.
If you’re curious about whether VI Peel is right for your skin, come in and let’s talk about it. I’ll tell you exactly what I think it can do for you, and just as importantly, what it can’t.
